Fairbanks Cancer Clinic, Dr. Botha in center

August 13, 2001

Journal Entry/Day 9

There is no such thing as an easy challenge.

I got up at 7 o’clock.  I instructed Brian to do things in Fairbanks.  We had breakfast at Denny’s.  Got a late start at 9:30.  I cycled well.  There were many military vehicles on the road.  We also saw many fighter jets when passing an air base.

This is the first time we have seen the sun in 10 days.  Not having rain is a welcome surprise.  My first stop was at 62 km.  I had a rest and Joof cycled for a while.  He did well.  He cycled 58 km.  Ronel cycled 41 kilometers.

I did not feel well in the afternoon.  My blood pressure was low at 96/56 after an hour and a half rest.  I cycled another 40 kilometers and finished the day at 152 kilometers.  This was the best day so far.

We stopped at a very nice camping facility at Delta Junction.  We washed the filthy motor home.  Tomorrow I am going to go for 173 kilometers.
