Journal Entry/Day 8
We are
at “Livengood.” You must have to live a good life to
live at “Livengood.” There is nothing going here at the
little store. The lady that runs it says that there is
a 1200 man camp nearby.
It is
still raining and muddy and I am finding it very
difficult to progress. Fairbanks is within our sights
being only 54 km. Away. Then we will finally have a
decent road. I am feeling tired and sore today but when
the weather warms up I will recuperate quickly.
I
wrapped my legs in glad wrap to keep some of the mud
off. My shoes are wet and heavy from the rain. They
never get enough time to dry. Iron cannot become steel
until it receives a lot of heat. And so I have to
persevere, things will get better. I stopped for a
great breakfast, at 38 km, of oatmeal, eggs, bread and
coffee.
Brian
measured the distance to pavement at 16 km. I will
change bikes at that road. Joof, Brian and Ronel had
trouble again. The van did not want to start and had to
be jump-started. The motor home got stuck but Joof
managed to get it out eventually. I stopped at 17 km.
And changed to the GT bike. Brian and Ronel left for
Fairbanks to do errands. I cycled the 68 km. to
Fairbanks non-stop.
I
could see that something was wrong as Brian walked up to
me. He had driven the van and bicycles into the car
wash. I was not too happy about it. Brian is still
unable to get the e-mail to work with our phones and my
patience is wearing thin.
We
went to “Pikes Landing” for a great supper. We all went
to bed in a comfortable motel room. This is well
deserved. Tomorrow is another day.
